France has reported 8 cases of e. coli, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). 6 women and 2 men have fallen ill. All are believed to have eaten contaminated bean or seed sprouts. An investigation is underway to determine whether the French and German outbreaks have a common source.
German authorities, meanwhile, have conclusively determined bean and seed sprouts are responsible for the e. coli outbreak in that country. The Robert Koch Institute continues to advise people living and travelling in Germany not to eat raw sprouts. The number of cases reported on a daily basis remains on the decline. Cumulative numbers, on the other hand, continue to rise as a result of late reporting of earlier infections.
