Cigna launches new iPMI range for oil and gas industry expats

Cigna has launched a new range of iPMI plans specifically for expats in the oil and gas industries.

New international private medical insurance (iPMI) plans target oil and gas workers and include medical evacuation from remote places. The range, from Cigna Global Health Benefits Europe, is designed specifically for oil and gas rig workers.

The provider says Cigna Energy Plans have been created to serve the insurance needs of rig workers, which are very different to the usual expat coverage.  The plans’ pricing is also targeting these industries specifically.

The range has three levels of cover, reports Health Insurance Magazine, Core, Advanced and Ultra. The standard options for location also apply, with customers being able to choose worldwide cover, or cover excluding the USA.

Mark Coleman, regional sales director for Europe at Cigna, told the Health Insurance Magazine the Energy Plans offer medical evacuation for employees in remote locations, and have been designed to integrate with companies’ own offshore emergency evacuation facilities.

The plans cover chronic conditions as standard for all groups, and cover pre-existing conditions for groups with more than 10 employees

With developing nations such as Ghana exploring newly discovered gas fields the demand for skilled expat workers will rise. Companies will want to make sure their medical insurance is as comprehensive as possible.
